Biohacking Social #56 – Biohackers Chiang Mai

Can you use neurofeedback to "fix" your brain?

During the Biohackers Chiang Mai Biohacking Social, we discussed a LOT of different biohacking topics during our meetup, from neurofeedback to light therapy, and MANY topics in between.

Wait a sec! What is biohacking and a biohacking social?

Good question. It’s something I covered in an article after our first biohacking social meetup – so you can click to learn more.

Biohacking Topics

You’ll learn more about "fixing" your brain with neurofeedback soon enough. But first, here are some of the things we discussed:

[+] Neurofeedback using Neuroptimal
[+] Red Light Therapy using FlexBEAM
[+] Brain Engagement using NeuroVIZR
[+] Exercise with Oxygen Training using Live O2
[+] Blue Light Blocking Glasses, Microdosing Mushrooms and much more...

Fix Your Brain with Nuerofeedback

Why do neurofeedback?

Our presenter, Jaden, did a great job of demonstrating and explaining nuerofeedback using the Neuroptimal equipment.

He shared some evidence on how neurofeedback can help us with the challenges we face in our everyday lives. From the Nueroptimal website:

"NeurOptimal® is an advanced neurotechnology designed to train the brain to function at peak performance levels."

Although the evidence isn't conclusive, reports and studies show neurofeedback can help with many problems like:
  • Stroke
  • Brain injury including aneurysm or concussion
  • ADHD
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep problems
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Eating disorders
  • Addiction disorders
  • Migraines
  • Chronic pain

What is neurofeedback and how does it work?

You’re free to google and do your own research and I’ll start by offering the wikipedia definition:

"Neurofeedback (NFB), also called neurotherapy or neurobiofeedback, is a type of biofeedback that uses real-time displays of brain activity—most commonly electroencephalography (EEG), to teach self-regulation of brain function."

And from Neuroptimal:

"This innovative form of neurofeedback is not a medical treatment, but rather a training for the brain."

Neurofeedback in Action

Jaden demonstrated how Neuroptimal works - so check out the video above!

Red Light Therapy using FlexBEAM

Our host for the meetup, Michael, had many of his own biohacking toys - including the FlexBEAM (made locally here in Chiang Mai!) that uses red and infrared light to "recharge" the body. Many people use it to control pain and inflammation, healing and recovering from physical stress and injuries.

I own and use the FlexBEAM regularly for aching joints and for vasodilation (as an alternative to Viagra!).

Brain Engagement using NeuroVIZR

Another toy that I think many of us enjoyed trying out was the NeuroVIZR - which gives a sort of psychedelic experience by using flashing lights accompanied by music.

Exercise with Oxygen Training (EWOT) using Live O2

We didn't get a demo of this amazing biohacking tool but I had an opportunity to use it in the past when I was trained as a Biohacking Tech at Bulletproof Upgrade Labs in Santa Monica.

Some reported benefits:

You can visit the Live O2 website to learn more about their machine and EWOT.

Blue Light Blocking Glasses, Microdosing Mushrooms and much more...

Because I recently moved and I continue downsizing, I had some of my own biohacking goodies to share (for purchase and giveaway) including:

  • Networking Equipment (for fast, reliable Internet and less EMFs)
  • Pavlok to shock yourself into better habits
  • Blood Glucose Monitor (with 200 test strips)
  • Peptides and needles (to upgrade body and mind)
  • Durable Borosilicate Glass Bottles (for plastic and metal-free drinks)
  • Cambridge Mask PRO (premium long-term use n99 face mask)
  • Yoga Mats
  • Block-out blinds (for better sleep)
  • Blue Light Blocking Glasses (for better sleep)
